Samtredia is located in the west of Imereti. It is a border of Imereti, Guria and Samegrelo. Samtredia is one of the most important railway junctions of Transcaucasia. The territory of the municipality is a highway junction.
There is an International airport of Kutaisi by named of Davit Arhmashenebeli, which is located on the territory of Samtredia. The city is known for its agricultural market, which is an important economic center for the region. Samtredia Agro market is reached by the neighbor municipalities.
Samtredia is bordered by the municipalities of Tsyaltubo, Khoni,Abasha,Lancgkhuti, Chokhatauri and Vani. The population all of these municipalities use Samtredia Agro market practically every day. Agricultural products are cheaper in Samtredia than in the other cities.
In 1960 Samtredia was important industrial zone. In 1980 there were approximately 100 large factories. The factories produced various goods, building materials, cotton, food and others. One of the largest factories in the region was wooden producing factory. It played a big role in the economics of our city. But in 1990 many factories had been closed and territory got deep crisis.
Nowadays, there are many modern activities, which are held by local government. For example, such as modernization of investment facilities, arrangement of infrastructure and increasing investment potential.
There are quite good prospects for the development of industry on the territory of wooden producing factory. There is also former industrial zone, where are tens of hectares of land, which parts of them, are of country and parts are the property of Samtredia Municipality. There are communication networks, electricity, gas and water in this area.
